The Flash intro is now actually an intro to the site.

It would be easy to remove, but you can always bypass it by clicking "skip intro"

I was checking it a few times to make sure there was no problems, when the site was shut down for excess data transfer. I guess Geocities, checks data transfer by the hour, not by the month. (The site will only be down an hour or so.)

There are some optons to fixing this but they cost money. (About $100 for a year, which isn't very much money split up several ways.)

I will come up with some ideas, and options, and present them this Sunday.

Everyone please understand that this is just an option, and not something we need to do.

Like I said I will have all the info for everyone this Sunday to discuss.

The TeamSolOregon site is totally broken for me.

All I get is a black screen, and that's even after waiting the 5 minutes for the 1.1 mb (!) SWF to supposedly load. [For the first minute I thought my machine had frozen, until I happened to notice some movement in my browser's progress bar. I was about to force-Quit.]

My intention was to print out some of the "business card" invitations(?) so to put one on the black del Sol I spotted in my neighborhood. But finding that the welcome page (!!) is so prohibitive of casual access, I am disinclined to share even the URL with unmet persons whose internet access I cannot guess.

Also regrettable is this (relatively useful) bulletin board's cryptic address, and no way to link to it from without.

Please, please experiment someplace other than the splash screen. And if you must use flash, try to limit the filesize to 100k! And fix the "loading" message. It didn't even appear. Also please add a SKIP INTRO link and/or some other useful nonflash navigation.

There is a "skip intro" link on the bottom of the Whole movie, not just the loading screen.

It loads up to frame 500 before the movie starts, not the entire thing. There is over 1000 frames in the movie.

What type of machine are you using?

I know that several PC's and Mac's haven't had the same problems.

Sol Man you'll need to upgrade to Shockwave Flash Plugin 6.0 . I know because I was having the same problem, then it will work fine. Also I run on a Mac too.

My upgrading won't help the people I invite.

Requiring the ultimate latest viewer of everyone who visits is going to turn some of them away. As a curtesy and to reach the broadest possible audience, it is common practice to save plugin media a couple of versions down.

Try surfing the site from the public library and see what results you get. The library isn't going to let you install the latest plugin. But shouldn't people who access the internet from there be welcome at TeamSolOregon?

I have three computers running 3 different operating systems and on each of them are two of 3 different browsers. Keeping all the plugins current in them simply isn't worth the effort. My version of Flash (the Authoring tool, not the plugin) is 5, so I know I'm not going to create any movies that need viewer 6. (Or do you suggest I upgrade that also?) [img]smile.gif[/img]

I haven't seen the site's intro movie yet. Is it something that can be moved to an internal page?

I had to reinstall my OS, so I don't have all the correct fonts to save the flash file to a lower version, without it looking funny.

I will have to change a few things also that specifically use Flash 6, which a some work I don't have time for right now.

If you want to view the intro correctly, get the flash 6 plugin.

If you want to skip the intro completely

I hurt my knee at work yesterday, so I am laid up for a few days, and had some time to work on the Flash intro.

It is now saved in 5, and a couple other things were fixed.
